PB 14:14 - The Butt Book by Artie Bennett

I'm jumping in with PB 14:14 a little later then I wanted, but I'm in in now! (Some links for more info on PB 14:14 and the Story Elements.)

Starting of with a rhyming picture book:

Title: The Butt Book
Author: Artie Bennett
Illustrator: Mike Lester
Publisher: Bloomsbury USA Children's Books
Year: 2010
Word Count: 394

Summary: Funny rhymes and bright illustrations around everyone's favorite seat keep readers laughing all the way through.

If you think there aren't 32 pages worth of different ways to rhyme about butts, you are wrong! Artie Bennett does a great job of keeping the rhymes different and at times unexpected.

For example:
"Some names for butts have foreign flair,
tuchas, keister, derrière!
In England where they call moms "mums,"
people call their buttocks bums."

Great alliteration with "foreign flair."

Easy to read, the text flows through out the book.

I love the use of words we don't use everyday.

Example:
"Some exercise their butts with zeal
in hopes of having buns of steel."

There does happen to be a lot of alliteration thanks to having "butt" or some form of the word in just about every line.

Another favorite line of mine is:
"Giraffe butts are supremely tall,
but mouse butts are extremely small."

Supremely and extremely are great internal rhymes.

Each page turn offers a fresh new rhyme all about butts. Definitely a crowd pleaser in our house.

Now as a little treat here is our first Toddler Dramatic Reading of THE BUTT BOOK.
(I'm testing out a few different video editors. Since the one I used here is the free version of a software, DEMO MODE is displayed across the video.)

Enjoy!

  3. That video was SO cute! Butt, butt, butt... shake your little bootie... butt, butt, butt... THE END. Thanks for sharing. I'd love to see a blog post about your video editing software comparisons. I'm so glad you joined the challenge, Sarah! I hope to see more BOOK LOVE from you. I love the internal rhyme and all the SYNONYMS in this book. Could even teach 4th graders a lesson on synonyms. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Thanks! I hope to get some more book love out there. This snow we've had on the east coast messed up my preparations!
